A Beautiful Mess

Beauty Trick : Mixing Two Lip colours

(Left- NYX Soft Matte Cream in Stockholm | Right - NYX Soft Matte Cream in Monte Carlo )

I will agree I am not quite regular with beauty posts infact I have been quite neglecting the beauty blogger in me.Well this one here is also not one of those product reviews.I am going to show you a trick which I have been using to make most of a product which I was going to discard.

(Left- NYX Soft Matte Cream in Stockholm | Right - NYX Soft Matte Cream in Monte Carlo )

I got these two NYX lip creams Stockholm and Monte Carlo in buy one get one free offer more than a year back. Now Monte Carlo is a very bold and beautiful colour but its not suitable for office or daily wear and as for the free lip cream Stockholm I didnt like the shade. So basically I had not just one but two shades of the most coveted matte lipsticks just lying in my drawer.

For a long time Stockholm was sitting idle in my drawer and Monte Carlo was very loud for office/daily wear. Well being a science student does have some long term effects. One fine day I thought of experimenting by mixing these two lip creams.
In case you dont know these lip creams when applied are glossy but after 10-20 seconds it settles and gives a velvety matte finish. Hence I thought they would stay wet and become sticky but I succeeded in my experiment and the result was a beautiful pink color.

Following are the steps on how to carry out this simple experiment.

(  NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo  )

Step 1 : Apply lightly the dark/deep color in this case NYX Monte Carlo.

Step 2 : Apply small dots of  NYX Stockholm and start spreading and mixing the lip cream.
I have been mixing these lip creams for quite some time now due to which the applicator of Stockholm has turned red and the swatch looks pink than Stockholm actually is. From the outer colour of the tube one can gauge how pale the actual colour is. As you can see in the above image after proper mixing the result is a beautiful Rosy Pink which is close to soft matte shades of San Paulo and Ibiza.Ibiza is one of the new shades added to the Soft matte range.

Also by varying the quantity a wide spectrum of colours from red to pink can be created. In the image above I have increased the quantity of Stockholm due to which the result is lighter than the one in the image in Step 2.

I am wearing this mixture of lip creams in one of my selfie I had posted a long time back on Instagram which you can check here .

For daily wear I prefer rosy pink lip colours as compared to totally nude colours because they add a subtle glow to the face at the same time gives a fresh look.

This trick works even with lip pencil + one soft matte cream.I have also tried this lip pencil + Lip cream combination with my Inglot Matte Lip crayons and it gives similar results.

So here you go, a very simple yet effective trick I have been using to wear these NYX lip creams.

  1. I really want to buy one of these but I read a review somewhere that it dried up 3 days after opening. Is the quality bad??

I love Stokholm, by the way. I might just buy it.

    1. The quality is pretty good I got these a year back and both the tubes are fine.Stockholm is a nice shade as you can see it blends well and can be mixed to create more shades.
